Stash Busting Patterns

What makes a pattern a stash buster? Is there some form to look for or a style that screams “stash buster over here!!!”?  I think it is more of a mindset, you need to look at your pattern and judge if it will use up a that certain amount of yarn you have, such as one skein of a fingering weight yarn at 400 yds, or three worsted weight yarns at 200 yds each.  Maybe you can look at a pattern and see how many different DK weight yarn you have and make something super colorful. The limit is only your imagination.

Scrap of Beauty A great crocheted scrappy afghan.

Scrappy Bias Shawl

The above patterns are both paid and free, they can use up that skein of yarn you purchased because of love or they use up your small leftover balls.  We never throw away yarn, ever.  Don’t be afraid of using different weights of yarn, as long as the weight is consistent then use up your sport, DK and worsted.

Hats and fingerless gloves are always a big hit when wanting to use up partial skeins of yarn.  Make a crazy hat for your kid nephew or some rainbow styled fingerless mitts for a niece or your own kids.

Sockhead Slouch Hat  This a great basic pattern, make one for each member of the family.

Underwing Mitts

These mitts are on my future Christmas list, I saw them and fell in deep.  She has several others that are just as adorable, check them out.  These can be done in so many colors and so little yarn!

I have several skeins of beautiful Dream in Color yarn (smooshy w/ cashmere) and each one needs a project. I wound up my Cherry Red one and am knitting a small shawl out of it for someone. I am using three skeins up for a up and coming class!!!  A way to use up those gorgeous and precious hanks of fingering weight yarn. The pattern Goldfish Memory, by Casapinka.  Go check it out and keep an eye out for more information.
