5 Pockets of Time for Stitching

5 Pockets of Time for Stitching

5 Pockets of Time to Complete that Gift for Christmas

How do we get those last minute gifts done for Christmas with the time we have?  Where do we find those brief moments of knitting or crocheting?  Here are 5 pockets of time that will give you hours over the next 3 ½ weeks, so that those gifts are wrapped and ready to go.

  • Set the alarm 30 minutes earlier.  Yep, set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than usual.  Wait listen, getting up early is hard at first, but when you see how much you accomplish in the quiet of the morning, it might become a lifetime habit.  There is an entire blog, book, and more about this at, Miracle Morning, check it out.  Use these 30 minutes before getting ready or after you are ready, but set a timer and work on your gifts.  Between now and the 23rd of December there are 13 hours of stitching bliss

  • Pack your lunch and your project bag.  Eat quickly and then enjoy the next 15-45 minutes working on your Barley by Tin Can Knits, or an Owl Hat by Sarah Zimmerman.  Work on your projects diligently and you will turn items out one after the other.
  • Having children in your home can make finding time hard, and the sacrifice will be made more by you than others, but that doesn’t mean leave out your spouse!  Ask for help, they really can’t read our minds or see everything that we are juggling.  Ask your significant other to take the kids for the evening and you buzz over to the nearest coffee shop and knit or crochet till they close or your stitches blur.  It is amazing how much you can get done with no interruptions.  In the long run, you will be less stressed because you are getting things accomplished.  Don’t forget to reciprocate this back to your loved one and allow them an evening to themselves.  It is an amazing gift to give one another.   If it’s just you and the tykes-send them off to sleeping land early or play their favorite Christmas movie while you knit.

  • Do not forget all the times that you wait. We live waiting for things, in lines, kids pickups, drivers licenses, the tag agency, right?  Always bring a project bag with you, when those hidden wait times come up you have something to do rather than play that dumb Dots Two game you downloaded to your phone ( or if you’re cheap like I am, knit or crochet between getting free new lives LOL).  This time of the year you will be in the doctor’s office, I have gotten some of my best knitting done while waiting.

  • Join your Local Yarn Shops open Stitch time.  Again it is getting away for a period time without distractions, but with all the possibilities of making new friends!  Bonus!  The Creation Station will be hosting several open stitch times between now and Christmas.  Saturdays-Dec., 2, 9,16, 23,from 12:00-5:00 & Sundays 3, 10, 17 from  1:00-4:00.  There will be coffee (with real cream), tea and hot chocolate, remember to bring your own Mug!

There are more pockets of time to knit and crochet, we all have different lives with different schedules and pockets pop up in the strangest times.  Look for them, always keep your project bag with you and work on your gifts knowing you can find the time to accomplish each one.

Stitch on my friends, stitch on.
